DEARING Plastics has always been known for its first class service and commitment to quality.
But in recent years, there has been one major change in this Hull-based plastic injection moulding business.
From a small but reputable family company, Dearing's has grown into a major player in the Yorkshire plastics industry ... and these days its manufacturing output includes everything from can crushers and toys to castor grips and electrical components.
"Business has really taken off and we now employ a core staff of 15 people, with up to 30 temporary production staff coming on board for major projects," said director Andy Harris. "From its small-scale beginnings, Dearing's has grown into a substantial operation taking on orders from some of the area's big name manufacturers."
Andy was appointed by Dearing Plastics Ltd in 2001, with a brief to oversee the growth and development of the business and drive it firmly into the 21st century.
He joined Andrew Dearing, who still remains at the head of the company as managing director.
"We both work closely together to ensure we are achieving our goal of great service, excellent products and, of course, growth for the company," said Andy.
In the last four years, the firm has managed some substantial projects, including an order to supply Red Savings Chocolate Boxes for Humbrol / Airfix.
In fact, Dearing's took on the challenge of not only making the popular boxes, but improving them into the bargain. It came up with a cheaper, more child-friendly design, and has supplied over a million since 2001.
Last year, the company, based in Bontoft Avenue, achieved the recognition of Investors in People, as well as ISO 9001 2002 standards. It has invested heavily in training, on methods such as lean manufacturing and team building, and has achieved nationally recognised accreditations.
Andrew Dearing said: "We still maintain the same values that were there from day one, but have built up the business with modern procedures and new machines in order to meet the needs of today's customers. "We are currently working 24 hours a day because of the high demand for our services.
"In just a few years, we have grown from a small family firm into a major enterprise, and it has been a big challenge. But at the core, quality, commitment and care are still what matters . . . and that's why our customers come back time and again."
